|Help us in the path of world domination?|
Oh hello there!
What’s that you say？ “Why are so many people dressed up in bowties, fezzes and multi-coloured scarf？” you say. I’ll tell you why. Because today is The Day of The Doctor! The day of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary！By now most Whovians around the world will have watched, watching or about to watch the special. This exciting day did not escape us Aria sisters’ attention, well at least the attention by Lullaby and I who are avid fans of the series. We made the bookings to go watch the special in the cinemas weeks ago and have been counting down the days to it.
We were slightly late to the bookings but we still got seats near each other so we could exchange glances and talk.
Pamphlets the cinema had to advertise for the TV screening in New Zealand. I secured one days before just in case they ran out.
By the time we arrived the mall was packed with people, and people obviously gunning for the screening of Doctor Who. You could tell people have been coming and going for the entire day. There was a long line of Whovians waiting just to get admitted to our session. I think the staff at the cinema found it a bit hard to cope with the sudden influx of people that they had to delay some sessions to allow time for people to get seated. Yes, it was that crazy and that packed. I think each session would have had a full house! I think one of the best things is that people dressed for the occasion. Some were in Doctor cosplays, some in the TARDIS costume, there were also Daleks, Weeping Angels, the Ponds amongst many others. One way or another people showed up in ways to show their love for the show. Whovians all round were checking out each others’ outfits and giving knowing smiles and waves. What a friendly bunch！
I also dressed up as fem!Eleventh. Lullaby was decked in a black lacey dress.
Can’t watch the movie without our dose of Christmas specials from Starbucks！
The preshow sequence had everyone screaming and clapping and the actual show itself… well, let’s just say it was a lot to digest and fangirl about. Anything more would be what River Song would say as “spoilers”. Steven Moffat really has done a wonderful job for the script, as he always does. Words cannot express how satisfied I am with this special. It has been a dream come true with the coming together of great actors including a lot of surprises. There is just something magical when you watch something with a theatre of people who gets it and have the same reaction at the same time.
For me this special has done the anniversary justice and what’s been promised has really been delivered if not more. I for one am very happy, Lullaby seems to agree with me too (especially since David Tennant held the screen and hearts of many).
Now, as cosplayers we must celebrate this amazing day in a way only cosplayers can do: by releasing the long-awaited Doctor Who cosplay! This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and been waiting for the perfect moment to release. The cold, cold night Lullaby and I went out for the photoshoot was totally worth it. Also much thanks to our lovely friend Ace-san for driving us around and sticking with us despite the freezing temperatures and the late night.
President Ace-san braving the elements with us.
Hopefully you will like the photos. And we will be back with more photos for The Hunger Games afterwards.
